Venice, 02 February 2015 The face of Carnival. Mask sellers are doing a roaring trade as tourists and locals alike continue a centuries-old tradition.
VENICE - Even though Venice is still emerging from winter wetness, everyone has a spring in their step as the masked festivities of carnival get under way.
The Venice Carnival entertainment ranges from exclusive and expensive masked balls to free waterborne performances.
However, it&39;s not only about dressing up – tourists and locals alike are continuing a tradition which centuries ago helped Venetians hide their class and identity behind a mask and do as they pleased.
After two weeks of revelry and splendour, the city quietens with residents obseving the abstinence of Lent.
