JOHANNESBURG - They're fresh and firing on all cylinders.
Eskom's expo for young scientists has crowned the best of the best.
At least 600 inventors took part to win prizes totalling R9-million.
This year's scholarship winner, Pinky Jiyane, has an electric future.
"I invented a meter that is able to load electricity without having to punch the numbers directly into the meter, there is a cellphone chase inside the meter, so what you do is, send the electricity numbers in means of a message and automatically, these numbers are turned into Kilowatts," Jiyane said.
Most of the projects at this year's expo are inspired by the challenges young people are confronted with daily and it’s finding solutions to those challenges that makes them winners.
eNCA's Nqobile Madlala has that story in the video above.
