First female Parliamentary serjeant-at-arms retires

PRETORIA - Regina Mohlomi says her job as serjeant-at-arms was peaceful until the arrival of the Economic Freedom Fighters in Parliament in 2014.

Newly-retired, she was speaking during an interview.

"When you go and approach the MP to leave you almost expect that they must leave at their own will," said Mohlomi.

"We were forced to look at the Parliament procedures... in a different way.

"We were called upon to shake the rule books... to make sure that the sittings of the house can be for the purpose of doing the work of Parliament."
