Oranges litter the street after the traditional 'battle of the oranges' as part of last year's carnival in Ivrea, near Turin, on February 26, 2017.
IVREA, Italy – The annual Battle of the Oranges is underway in northern Italy.
The three-day carnival sees participants divided into two groups – commoners on foot and guards of the medieval lords in carriages.
They then see red as they pelt each other with more than 500 tons of oranges.
And like any war, this one isn&39;t without casualties.
At least 180 people have been injured since the wasteful festival began.
