The Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos announced his split from his wife MacKenzie on Wednesday.
WASHINGTON - Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, are getting a divorce.
After being together for 25 years, the richest couple in the world announced their split in a joint statement on Twitter.
"After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends," the couple said in the statement.
The couple have four children -- three sons, and an adopted daughter.
According to media reports the divorce could be the most expensive in history with a $137-billion (R1.8-trillion) price tag.
Should the couple decide to split the wealth equally, MacKenzie could become the world's wealthiest woman, walking away with $69-billion (R955-billion).
