JOHANNESBURG - Users of WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram worldwide have been left frustrated when services went down earlier on Sunday.

The website Downdetector.com received hundreds of complaints.

It seems the problems started late on Saturday night.

All three applications belong to Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook.

It's not clear what the problem is and Facebook has yet to comment on the outage.

Some of the services are back up but seem to be intermittent.

Last month, users were unable to access Facebook for 14 hours.

The hashtag #FacebookDown was trending on Twitter.
