ETHEKWINI - The eThekwini Municipality says it is not sponsoring a recording deal for former president Jacob Zuma.
City mayor Zandile Gumede says there is no resolution to sponsor a recording deal.
"Let me first apologise to the former president for his name to be dragged on the mud. There is no such," said Gumede.
"There is no resolution of the council that talks about that and I feel sorry for the former president."
The municipality's Head of Parks, Recreation and Culture, Thembinkosi Ngcobo, claimed Zuma would begin recording soon.
Ngcobo also said Grammy Award-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo had shown an interest in working with Zuma.
He said they would avail their state of the art recording studios.
Tensions between Ngcobo and Gumede date back for some time but the latest statement by Gumede has brought the issue into sharp focus.
Opposition parties say they would never support Zuma's recording deal sponsored by the municipality.
