JOHANNESBURG - Bad news for people who objected to the renaming of Port Elizabeth to Gqeberha.
The Sport, Arts and Culture minister, Nathi Mthethwa, says it is here to stay.
More than 12,000 objections were logged over the names - Gqeberha, Kariega, Qonce, King Phalo Airport and Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport.
Some of the concerns raised were that new names would impact tourism and that they had nothing to do with the people of Nelson Mandela Bay.
But after consulting with the South African Geographical Names Council, Mthethwa has decided that all objections are rejected.
