HOLLYWOOD - South African film, Inxeba (The Wound) has been shortlisted for the Oscars.
The 90th Oscars will be held in March 2018.
The film was nominated in the Best Foreign language category.
The controversial gay Xhosa initiation film was directed by John Trengove and stars musician Nakhane Toure, which was his debut.
Initiation of boys in isiXhosa culture has been marred by controversy due to multiple deaths post the circumcision.
The film explored cultural taboos that exist within the Xhosa culture and grappled homosexuality juxtaposed with manhood and coming of age.
