JOHANNESBURG - It has been 24 years since Mariah Carey released "All I want for Christmas is You" and the smash hit is still breaking records.

The song is officially the highest-charting yuletide hit in 60 years on the Billboard Hot 100, as it rises to No. 6.

Billboard reports that "Carey's carol is the top-charting song of the season on the Hot 100 since "The Chipmunk Song," by David Seville and The Chipmunks, which remains the only such single to have hit No. 1, for four weeks beginning 22 December 1958 (just after the chart's inception that August 4)." 

To date the We Belong Together hitmaker has earned R855-million in royalties from the song.
