Michael Jackson was seeking to rebuild a reputation damaged by his 2005 trial and acquittal on child molestation charges. He died in Los Angeles of an overdose of the powerful surgical anesthetic propofol and a cocktail of other sedatives.

JOHANNESBURG - Wednesday marks five years since Michael Jackson died.

The King of Pop died on June 25 2009 from a heart attack triggered by a cocktail of prescription drugs.

He died at the age of 50.

His doctor, Conrad Murray, was sentenced to four years imprisonment in 2011 for his death.

Jackson might not be walking this earth anymore, but he still remains popular among many music lovers across the globe.

Millions continue to post messages on Twitter in memory of the man who dazzled the world with beautiful music and dance moves.
