Banks mum on Guptas

Hundreds of workers from Gupta family-owned Oakbay Investments are marching to the banks in an effort to save their jobs.

JOHANNESBURG - Absa has declined to discuss the closure of Oakbay Investments bank accounts and refused to meet with the mineral resources minister.

The bank says it declined the talks due to client confidentiality, adding that it cannot discuss any past, present or future clients.

Requests to meet came after Standard Bank, FNB and Nedbank all shut the Gupta-owned companies bank accounts.

Oakbay says the move is a threat to jobs of its employees, despite no proven wrongdoing by the companies or family.

Nedbank has also declined to discuss the banking relationships of any of its past clients.
