SA's manufacturing output rises 4.5% from revised 3.9% rise in May.
JOHANNESBURG – The South African manufacturing sector has started the year on a good footing.
The ABSA Purchasing Manager’s Index – which is a gauge of the sector’s health – improved by four points in January.
At 49,9 points, it just misses the expansion mark of 50.
Manufacturers reported the best business expectations score since 2010.
The improvement is likely due to the stronger global growth outlook as well as better prospects for the South African economy.
New sales orders also improved.
