PRETORIA - Stats SA has called on the government to address education shortfalls to improve the lives of black South Africans.

The statistics agency released its mid-year population estimates on Thursday.

It says the future of black people -- especially the youth, looks bleak due to the lack of education.

After 22 years of democracy, it seems efforts to improve the education of a black child isn&39;t bearing the desired results.

StatsSA says the country can no longer afford to delay redressing the education divide, lest the country&39;s largest population ends up being uneducated, unskilled and destitute.
