JOHANESBURG - Many people will be making their way back to Gauteng this week as the holidays come to an end.

Authorities are urging motorists to abide by the rules of the road, as well as Covid-19 protocols.

The province also expects a surge in COVID-19 infections in coming weeks. Nationwide roadblocks normally are in place to ensure the adherence of road safety rules.

With COVID-19 at play, this year's roadblocks are focused on the adjusted Level 3 regulations.

According to Gauteng Transport MEC, Jacob Mamabolo, law enforcement is looking at three things. These include COVID-19 compliance, road safety issues as well as criminal activity.

"We have not had any occurrence of anything related to crime," says Mamabolo.

"We are seeing that people are complying, both private vehicles and public transport," he adds.
