Adam Habib resigns from Wits University

Professor Adam Habib shares his thoughts on leaving Wits at the end of 2020. He will take up the position of Director at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. He will join SOAS in 2021.

JOHANNESBURG - University of Witwatersrand Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Habib has announced his resignation from the institution.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Habib said his decision to step down was not made lightly.

"My decision was not made lightly. I am a proud leader and champion of Wits University and South Africa, and will continue to fly these flags high”, said Habib.

He will officially leave the university at the end of December 2020.

Habib is expected to take up the position of Director at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
