MAHIKENG - AfriForum will appeal the sentences for Pieter Doorewaard and Phillip Schutte in the Coligny murder case.

The two farm workers were handed lengthy sentences at the North West High Court for killing 15-year-old Matlhomola Moshoeu in 2017, apparently because he stole a sunflower.

While the prescribed minimum sentence for people acting in common purpose to commit murder is life in prison, Judge Ronnie Hendricks said there were other compelling circumstances he had to take into account.

Schutte and Doorewaard are set to spend 18 and 23-years behind bars respectively.

It's not immediately clear when the lobby group intends filing the appeal on behalf of the men.
