JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Bheki Cele says he's deployed a Tactical Response Team, the 'amaberete', in Westbury to deal with drug lords.

They'll also investigate allegations of police corruption. This comes after days of protests.

The police’s Tactical Response Team will patrol Westbury to tackle gangsterism and drug-related criminal activity.

This is one of several promises made by police minister Bheki Cele, who addressed the disgruntled community that’s accused police in the area of working with and protecting gangsters.

Violence flared up in the area on Monday after residents took to the streets to protest the gunning down of a woman last week.

Police fired rubber bullets and teargas at protesters hurling rocks and bottles. 

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday. Heather Peterson will be laid to rest at the weekend.
