Health Department deputy director-general, Dr Anban Pillay
JOHANNESBURG - Former Acting Health Department Director-General Anban Pillay is expected to vacate his office on Thursday.
He's also been implicated in the Digital Vibes tender corruption scandal for financial misconduct.
Health Minister Joe Phaahla says Pillay will be out of the office by the end of Thursday.
"The question of why Dr Anban Pillay was not suspended immediately, the suspension of [Sandile] Buthelezi was undertaken from outside my office, even the suspension of the DG was not signed by myself," Phaahla said.
"We are only able to act as of today [Thursday] without suspensive documentation, we couldn't take any further steps.
"He will be out of the office before the end of working business today."
