ANC calls DA's claims about Gumede 'political hallucination'

DURBAN - The ANC is denying claims that former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede will be appointed Cooperative Governance Committee Chair in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

The party said no meeting has been planned to appoint her to that role.

It said the DA’s claims are not true.

ANC KZN spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela said, "I think we must put it on record that this DA statement is a political hallucination.

"There is no decision to say that Zandile Gumede is being elected as the chairperson of the portfolio committee in Cogta, taking place today (Tuesday). We even told them to check the legislature programme."

Ntombela said there is no scheduled meeting to elect a chairperson on Tuesday and said the document seen by the DA had information on which portfolio Gumede would be assigned to in her role as an ordinary member of the legislature.
