DURBAN - The arrest of several prominent ANC members in connection with Musa-wenkosi Mchunu's murder, has shocked his family.
Mchunu once served as a councillor in the uMsunduzi Municipality and was a regional member in Moses Mabhida.
He was shot dead while leaving his home in Kwapata in Pietermaritzburg.
Four months later, six people including an ANC ward councillor, have been arrested.
The suspects are due back in court on Thursday, after making their first court appearance.
Nomagugu Simelane, the ANC KZN spokesperson said, "the leadership of the ANC is engaging with themselves on an approach on how to deal with the matter because we are really caught between a catch-22 situation."
Two months ago, Police Minister Bheki Cele assembled a task team to investigate political killings in KwaZulu-Natal.
Since then 28 people have been arrested, including the suspects implicated in Mchunu's murder.
In an unrelated matter, ANC Greater Kwadukuza regional secretary Musa Zondi's been convicted of murder and kidnapping.
The case is related to a 2015 incident, following a break-in at his family business.
