DURBAN - Axed Ethekwini mayor Zandile Gumede has released a statement in reaction to the decision of the ANC in KZN to redeploy her.

In it, Gumede says for now she reserves her right to remain silent while taking legal advice.

She insists she will not be silenced and aims to clear her name after being vilified.

"I urge the members of the media and the public to wait for my public announcement in due course," the statement read.

"I won’t be silenced and I will not allow the truth to be made a first casualty of this matter."

If Gumede contests her redeployment, she'll be making an about-turn and going against a promise she made to the party executive.

ANC provincial secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli told eNCA on Tuesday that Gumede had unconditionally accepted the party's decision to remove her as mayor of eThekwini.

Gumede is facing fraud and corruption charges relating to a R208-million waste tender.

She is out on R50,000 bail and is due back in court in January next year.
