PHOENIX - Where is the protection for whistleblowers? That's what Deokaran's family is asking.
They say an official with a rank as high as Babita Deokaran's should have been protected.
The slain Gauteng Health Manager is described as a strong, courageous woman who spoke out against wrongdoers.
She was laid to rest in Phoenix, Durban.
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says the killing of Deokaran is not just a loss for Gauteng, but the entire country.
Deokaran's nephew read out a tribute from Zikalala at the funeral service.
Deokaran was gunned down outside her home on Monday in Johannesburg.
She was a whistleblower in a PPE corruption investigation.
A separate candlelight vigil was held for Deokaran in Johannesburg on Thursday.
