BADPLAAS - Guests of the Badplaas, A Forever Resort, are safe after being evacuated.

The Mpumalanga holiday spot was flooded by rain on Friday.

It's cancelled entertainment that was scheduled for Saturday. The spa and heated pool are closed.

Disaster management officials say contingency plans are in place and no lives are in danger.

Bridges at the resort have been re-opened, but guests are urged to be cautious when crossing them.

Resort spokesperson Johan Bezuidenhout said "the safety of guests and staff are our first priority".

The resort’s emergency services are on the ground and continuing to assess the extent of the water damage.

“Contingency plans are in place to deal with clean-up operations to affected public areas and we are currently working alongside officials to ensure the safety of guests and staff.

"Both the resort and hotel will remain open and operational”, said Kobus Tait, Managing Director of Forever Resorts South Africa.
