BATSA to challenge tobacco ban

JOHANNESBURG - British American Tobacco South Africa (BATSA) is going to court to challenge the ban on tobacco product sales.

The company said it has tried to engage with the government since the ban came into force, but no formal response has been received.

It also says it has also not been included in any consultation process.

Government has continued the ban under lockdown Level 3, citing health reasons.

The Fair-Trade Independent Tobacco Association is also pursuing a court application to have the ban on tobacco sales lifted.

Their case will be heard on 9 and 10 June.
