JOHANNESBURG - The Garden Route District Municipality is willing to challenge beach closures in court.
However, it says it will wait for the outcomes of a challenge being brought by Afriforum in some businesses.
The municipality is also giving the president time to respond to a letter from DA leader, John Steenhuisen.
"Based on those outcomes we are weighing up our options depending on how the president and (Nkosazana) Dlamini Zuma repond," said mayor, Memory Booysen.
"We have to reserve our options in that regard because of the devastating impact that announcement has on the Garde Route District," he added.
Beaches along the Garden Route have been closed from 16 December until 3 January 2021.
