CAPE TOWN - Police Minister Bheki Cele will visit Newcastle in KwaZulu Natal, following the farm murder of Glen Rafferty and his wife Vida.

The couple were shot dead at the weekend, at the same time tens of thousands of bikers hit the streets in protest against farm murders.

Graphic details of torture and cruel murders have been heard in Parliament.

According to the DA's Okkie Terblanche, farmers and farmworkers are more likely to be murdered in South Africa than police officers.

A rural safety plan was introduced in 2019 but politicians are questioning its efficacy.

Politicians have emphasised that race does not play a role in these attacks.

Opposition parties say the motive behind these attacks, where often nothing is stolen, is deeply disturbing.

Deputy President David Mabuza has condemned farm attacks and called for a meeting with the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Land Reform and Agriculture on Friday to discuss interventions to curb violence on farms.
