JOHANNESBURG - The South African Human Rights Commission has given the City of Tshwane until Friday to deliver clean drinking water to residents of Hammanskraal.

The residents have been experiencing water problems which could lead to chronic health conditions for a number of years.

The ANC in Tshwane is expected to go to Hammanskraal on Thursday and bottle tap water on site.

"Till this day the Democratic Alliance administration has not commissioned a water treatment plant which was put there by the ANC. They simply had to come in and commission it and make sure that it works so that it can purify the water", said the ANC's Kgoši Maepa.

The party plans to challenge councillors from the DA, FF Plus and COPE to drink the water.

"We have bottled this water, we are going to give them and supply. It has been bottled on-site, on camera, 120 bottles, we have marked them and we are going to give them to each councillor."

If they cannot drink this water then why do they want the people on the ground to drink the same water," he said.
