JOHANNESBURG - The South African National Taxi Council will be reviewing fares in Gauteng following the recent fuel price hike.

Santaco's Public Relations Officer, Midday Mali, says officials met on Wednesday and will start consultations with regions in order to consider whether or not to hike transport costs.

Should the decision be made to increase fares, the hike would be expected to happen between June and July.

"There is a likely hood that we may increase our fares around June/July but also there is a process that we need to follow, engaging our regions, the regions engaging the associations, as well the commuter organisations so that we can agree on the price," said Mali.

Mali says the organisation will take commuters into consideration when they decide on a percentage increase.

"We are going to look into the issues. How can we handle it so that our commuters shouldn't not cry that much," added Mali.
