Controversial AARTO law headed to ConCourt

File: Phase one of the Aarto system was implemented in July last year.

JOHANNESBURG - The controversial AARTO law is headed to the Constitutional Court in three legal actions.

In January, the High Court declared the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act, and amendments to it unconstitutional and invalid.

That was after a legal challenge by lobby group OUTA.

Then in February, Outa applied to the Concourt for confirmation of the High Court ruling.

In the same month, the Transport Minister filed a notice to appeal the ruling.

And, the Road Traffic Management Corporation has applied to join the case and appeal the outcome.

Outa is opposing both the appeal and the intervention application.
