COVID-19: Cases increase by 1,842

JOHANNESBURG - The health department said 1,842 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in South Africa.

The 35 new fatalities takes the death toll to 20,241.

More than 693,000 people have since recovered from the coronavirus.

Gauteng remains the province with the highest number of infections and deaths.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says COVID-19 outbreaks in the Eastern and Western Cape are concerning.

The minister says intervention is needed.

He will be heading to the Eastern Cape to assess the situation there.
