JOHANNESBURG - Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says 69 more people, including a fourth teenager, have died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

This brings the country's death toll to 1,423. This is a 50 percent increase over the past seven days.

The fatalities were recorded in the Western Cape (36), the Eastern Cape (9) and Gauteng (24).

Over 3,800 people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

Of those more than a thousand are from Gauteng.

A total of 65,736 people have tested positive since the start of the outbreak and nearly 37,000 have already recovered.
