DURBAN - Coronavirus infections and death rates are dropping in KwaZulu-Natal.

The province has the second-highest number of infections with over a 120,000 cases and around 3,000 deaths.

"We are pleased to report that the province is observing a steady decline in incident risk," said KZN Premier, Sihle Zikalala.

Health officials in the province are cautioning that level one lockdown isn't an excuse to be reckless.

They are pleading with people to keep wearing masks, especially when visiting the elderly.

"When we get to these entertainment areas, there are no masks worn, social distancing is not adhered to but when we come back, we come back to the elderly who are at risk," said KZN Health MEC, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu.
