JOHANNESBURG - South Africans should brace for a swift surge in COVID-19 infections.

This is according to Epidemiologist Dr Salim Abdool Karim, who says each infected person can pass the virus to two or three others.

“We know that this particular infection has a reproductive rate of about 2 to 3 others. We expect the doubling time to be somewhere between 3 to 5 days.”
