JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng's latest stats show the third wave has well and truly hit.
It now accounts for half of the country's daily infections and health authorities are predicting the peak next month.
The latest statics in Gauteng paint a bleak picture.
More than 2 800 people have now been hospitalised, with more than 19,000 active cases reported.
"As we speak now Gauteng accounts for half of the daily cases that are reported nationally," said Gauteng Premier David Makhura.
The list of hotspots is also getting longer.
The provincial government is mulling stricter enforcement at hotspots.
Meanwhile, health authorities are warning that infections could peak next month.
