File: Justice Minister Ronald Lamola has appointed Kate O' Regan as COVID-19 Designate Judge.

JOHANNESBURG - Justice Minister Ronald Lamola has appointed Kate O' Regan as COVID-19 Designate Judge.

She will oversee the tracing and tracking of those who have contracted COVID-19.

Her main role will be to ensure the private and personal information of every individual tracked is safeguarded.

Earlier this week, government announced it will use cellphone data to track the location of people suspected to have contracted the virus.

O'Regan has extensive experience in the legal field.

She served for 15 years as a Constitutional Court Judge.
