COVID-19: Mamabolo finds substandard PPE in warehouses

JOHANNESBURG - Acting Gauteng Health MEC Jacob Mamabolo says he has found substandard protective gear in some warehouses.

He met unions and managers at health care facilities in the province.

Some health workers say because they are not working in COVID-19 wards, they are not given proper equipment.

They claim the department is putting their lives at risk.

"There is a challenge with PPE, relating to quality as you said and that has a direct bearing on the rate of infections," he said.

Mamabolo says his department is looking into the matter.
