JOHANNESBURG - Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has welcomed a new batch of nurses deployed to hospitals around Gauteng.

The deployment of the nurses is part of efforts to bulk up the response to the coronavirus.

Despite the rapid increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Gauteng, Mkhize says steps are in place to ensure that medical facilities act quickly.

The province's numbers are expected to soar in the coming weeks.
