PIETERMARITZBURG - Personal Protective Equipment from KwaZulu Natal's education department has been stolen in various districts.

The theft comes as schools prepare to open on Monday.

KZN Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu says he is shocked at the theft from districts in uMlazi, Pinetown, and Zululand.

"The disappearance of these PPEs makes the preparations for the re-opening in schools an elusive goal," the department said in a statement.

Investigations are underway.
