COVID-19 in SA: 1,649 new cases, 6 deaths recorded

The latest data from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases shows that there were no COVID-19-related deaths in South Africa in the past 24 hours. There were 183 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, the NICD said, but these were part of an ongoing national health department audit. JOHANNESBURG - The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 1,649 new COVID-19 cases.

Six COVID-related deaths have occurred in the past 24 to 48 hours.

The majority of the new cases are from Gauteng, followed by the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Over 26,000 were conducted in the last 24 hours indicating a 6.3 percent positivity rate.
