JOHANNESBURG - Over 24 million COVID-19 vaccines have been administered since the start of the vaccination drive.

That’s according to Health Department acting director-general, Dr Nicholas Crisp.

This is ahead of the fourth wave expected next month or in January.

"We are well over 24.2 million of vaccines administered. But that might be slightly higher than that because we know there are some paper records around," he said.

Health Minister Joe Phaahla last week said healthcare facilities are already gearing up for a fourth COVID-19 wave.

Phaahla says they are doing everything they can to ensure that it's delayed and that when it does arrive, it has little impact.

 273 new COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths were recorded on Tuesday.
