COVID-19 in SA: 345 new deaths reported

JOHANNESBURG - The health department has reported a further 345 COVID-19 related deaths.

This brings the death toll in South Africa to 8,884.

More than 100 people died in Gauteng, 97 in the Western Cape, 89 in KZN, and 43 in the Eastern Cape.

SA's recovery rate is now close to 70%.

Less than 4,000 new cases have been confirmed in the last 24-hours.

This is the lowest number since the last week of June.

More than half of the new cases are from KZN and Gauteng.
