COVID-19 in SA: 83 more deaths recorded

JOHANNESBURG - The Health Department has reported 83 new COVID-19 related deaths in South Africa, taking the death toll to 15, 940.

The majority of the deaths in the last 24 hours are from KwaZulu Natal, with the province reporting 52 fatalities.

The Eastern Cape (4), Gauteng (5), Western Cape (4) and Limpopo (18) also reported new deaths.

The country has recorded 2,029 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 659, 656.

More than 589,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus.

South Africa's COVID-19 recovery rate is at 89.4-percent.
