JOHANNESBURG - The South African Medical Association says lifting the prohibition on the use of Ivermectin to treat COVID-19 patients is a step in the right direction.
That is, provided it's done through a "controlled, compassionate, access program".
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority has released guidelines for the use of the drug.
This was in response to urgent appeals by healthcare practitioners.
Sama National Chairperson, Dr Angelique Coetzee is also warning those wanting to use Ivermectin to make sure they access it through a registered medical doctor and don't 'shop' for it using other routes.
Coetzee explains in the video above.
