JOHANNESBURG - Health Minister Joe Phaahla says he's concerned about the low number of people that are vaccinated against Covid-19.

He was speaking during a media briefing earlier as the number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise in the country.

"We are still under 50 percent adults who have taken one dose of vaccination, we are stuck at 50 percent," he said.

"We need to at least 60 percent as we go to winter. "We urge young people to come forward in numbers because you need to protect yourself and those around."

Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape account for 85 percent of all cases.

Phaahla is also concerned about the high positivity rate in the country.
