JOHANNESBURG - Healthcare workers should take top priority when the COVID-19 vaccine arrives in South Africa according to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases' Professor Adrian Puren.

Professor Puren said the second COVID-19 wave will paint a clearer picture of who will need the vaccine more.

"The list of priorities in terms of who should be vaccinated, I think: the healthcare workers. I think it's a high priority given the nature of the task and the health system, they really would be the key population to focus on. Then focus on more vulnerable groups in terms of the old age group," he said.
