CAPE TOWN - Craig Peiser, the man who ripped the mask from eNCA reporter Monique Mortlock's face at a beach protest on the weekend, will be sent to Valkenberg Psychiatric hospital.

He was assessed by a district surgeon who says that he's not fit to stand trial.

While Peiser waits for a bed at the facility, he will be kept in the hospital section at Pollsmoor Prison.

He first appeared in court on Monday, but proceedings were postponed after Peiser lost his temper in court.

Peiser is expected back in court next week.
