Yet they continue to face senseless attacks.

Close to 100 incidents have been reported this year, and there are fears this will spike during the festive season.

Health workers’ union Hospersa says the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces are the main hotspots.

Hospersa has renewed a call on government to act.

It says the state, as their employer, has a legal obligation to prioritise the safety of EMS workers.
