JOHANNESBURG - The funeral industry in Cape Town is shutting down on Wednesday.

Some demonstrators marched to the Home Affairs offices in the CBD to hand over a memorandum of demands.

The shutdown is part of a 3-day funeral parlour strike which started on Monday.

They want the government to intervene in helping small black-owned undertakers get operating certificates.

The undertaker's shutdown protest started in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng on Monday.

The Cape Town shutdown could have serious implications for the Muslim community as burials need to happen within 24 hours.
