PRETORIA - Gauteng education officials are investigating after a 13-year-old Pretoria school girl took her own life.

It is alleged the teenager was bullied online for over a week.

On Monday, the grade 6 pupil from Doornpoort Primary School killed herself, apparently after relentless cyberbullying on a WhatsApp group.

The Gauteng Department of Education says that a grade 7 pupil threatened to distribute a picture of the deceased pupil depicted naked via WhatsApp.

The extremely traumatised 13-year-old rang the alarm and reported the alleged bullying to her teachers in an effort to get help.

She also named the schoolmates said to be responsible.
